Quote of the Week
“Whatever we accomplish belongs to our entire group, a tribute to our combined effort.” – Walt Disney
Today’s header photo is of Patrick Carter (1:13:15), Emma Unterkoefler (2:58:15 PR) and Gabrielle McKenzie (2:53:34 PR) after their monster performances at this past weekend’s Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon. More details in the Results section.
Indianapolis Monumental Marathon and Half Marathon was looking like it was going to be run in sauna conditions until the temperature dropped from 70 degrees at midnight to 50 degrees for the 8:00 AM start time on Saturday. The CARs in attendance took full advantage of the change in conditions to post some great performances. Patrick Carter ran 1:13:15 in the half marathon, a bit short of his PR but 2 minutes faster than he ran earlier in the season. In the marathon, Gabrielle McKenzie ran a 2:53:34 PR (1st in the women’s 30-34 AG; splits 1:28:27/1:25:07; #18 on the CAR all-time women’s performers list; previous best 2:58:17) and Emma Unterkoefler ran a 2:58:15 PR (6th in the women’s 25-29 AG; splits 1:29:58/1:28:17; #32 on the CAR all-time women’s performers list; previous best 3:03:15). A couple of CAR alums who have moved away from D.C. also had some great runs in the marathon with Tom Derr finishing 10th overall in the men’s race in 2:18:08 (PR; splits 1:09:29/1:08:39) and Skylar Musa finishing 16th overall in the women’s race in 2:44:18 (PR; splits 1:23:03/1:21:15).
Matt Stout ran 42:09 at the Marine Corps 10k.
Callie Wallace ran her best race of the season in finishing 4th overall at the ISL XC Championship in 20:18 (5k).
Marisa Poe was Yale’s #2 runner and 25th overall at the Heptagonal XC Championship in Boston in 21:55.9 (6k).
Congrats to all!
