April 3, 2022: Susanna Sullivan of the Capital Area Runners won the women’s elite race at the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile in a PR time of 52:32. Susanna’s time makes her the 11th fastest performer in US history for the 10 mile distance. She traded the lead with several other women for the first 4+ miles of the race before making a bold move just before the 5 mile mark to take over the lead for good. She slowly drew away from a chase pack which included Carrie Verdon, Paige Stoner, Sarah Pagano and 2 time US Olympian Kim Conley during miles 5 through 9 and then held off a late charge from Verdon (2nd in 52:37) and Stoner (3rd in 52:38) in the final mile to seal her victory. Susanna became the first DC area runner to win this race since Eleanor Simonsick in 1983. Congrats to Susanna!
